I began skeleton in November of 2004 after being recruited at a track meet that summer. I went to Lake Placid, New York for a camp and was invited to come back. I spent year finishing high school and choosing Plattsburgh University so I could continue pursuing skeleton. I spent the year training and learning more about how to improve down the track. Skeleton is such an amazing sport because you can never have two of the same runs down a track. It is always a learning experience, which I think keeps you on your toes. I spend my summers training at the Olympic Training Center, and working a part time job on the side so I can compete and travel to races during the season. I spent last season on the World Cup circuit but gave my World Championship spot to a teammate because I pulled my hamstring the week before the race. It was the most difficult thing I have had to do in my career so far. This season I was on the Intercontinental Cup Tour, I hurt my shoulder during training before US team trials in the beginning of the season. I learned a lot about the tracks in Europe that I haven’t spent much time on, and a lot about how I need to feel and what makes me race the best. Being focused, dedicated and determined are the main reasons why I love training and competing.
